IP65 LED lighting

An IP rating has two digits: the first is protection against solids and dust, the second against water. IP20 is dry indoor use only. IP44 withstands splashing — bathrooms and covered outdoor areas. IP65 resists low-pressure water jets from any direction, the practical minimum outdoors. IP66 handles powerful jets, suited to floodlights, street lighting and factories that hose down floors. Over-specifying does no harm; under-specifying shortens life and usually voids warranty. Note the rating applies to the luminaire installed correctly — a misaligned gasket or a cable entering from the wrong direction defeats it.
