Batten

What it is for

Batten fittings are surface-mounted linear luminaires, the direct replacement for old fluorescent channels. They fix straight onto a ceiling or wall with no cut-out, which suits refurbishment of stores, garages, plant rooms and corridors.

Choosing the right one

Measure the old channel first, because battens come in fixed lengths and being one size out means the fixing holes will not line up. Second is environment: dusty stores, garages and wash bays need an ingress-rated version, as standard ones are for dry areas only.
