Garden lighting covers paths, planting beds and water features outdoors. It differs from floodlighting by throwing low, soft light — the aim is to see the route and read the landscape, not to flood the whole area.

Choosing the right one
Two things to ask about closely, because these sit outdoors year-round: ingress rating and housing material — near the coast, salt air attacks ordinary painted aluminium quickly, so the material has to suit. Third is colour: warm white flatters planting and timber, while cool white makes a garden read like a car park.
